Logwood Purple Extract
Logwood Purple Extract is a seductive, brilliant purple, Logwood (Haematoxylin campechianum) originates from the Americas. Its natural range includes Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and Venezuela. Logwood was known as the “spiny tree” by the Aztecs because of its thorny, contorted trunk that was used as a weapon. Logwood Purple has a moderate lightfast rating, so keep it from bright sunlight. The addition of ferrous sulfate (iron) grays the purple and improves its lightfastness.
The trees are sustainably harvested and the heartwood is used to make the dye. Logwood has always been an important source of dye.
